February/March 2010 Update
We’re winding up a very successful youth basketball season. It was our inaugural season playing at the Columns at Boone Park Community Center and we’re happy with the results. All of our leagues were competitive, fun and well organized. We are preparing to play in the GRPA District Basketball Tournaments on February 25 – 27, 2010. We’ll field teams in the 8 & Under Boys, 10 & Under Boys, 10 & Under Girls, 12 & Under Boys and 12 & Under Girls divisions. Our agency will play host to the District Three 8U Boys and 10U Boys tournaments. An update on these results will be in our next report.
The Winter gymnastics season was a huge success with more than 260 youngsters participating in the program. Our competitive team is off to a fantastic start. The girls traveled to In Bound gymnastics in Albany to witness the Outlaw Invitational Meet. They participated in the SCGA “Mock Meet” a few weeks ago and this coming weekend will be participating in a meet at Dream It Gymnastics in Tifton. We already have a winner in gymnastics as Whitney Parker competed in the level IV meet in Tucker, Georgia last weekend and finished 1st in vault and 3rd in overall. Congratulations to Whitney! Spring quarter gymnastics registrations continues through February 26th.
Youth baseball registration is going on now – February 26th. Leagues are offered for kids ages 5 – 12 and the cost is $60.00 per child. Register at the Columns at Boone Park Community Center, Monday – Friday from 8:00AM – 5:00PM. We recently had a good baseball coaches meeting. Most of our teams have coaches and we look forward to a great season. On March 6th, the Doyle Baseball Academy will be in town. They will conduct a coaches certification program from 8:00AM – 11:00AM. The cost is $25 if you pre-register or $45 on site. Then, from 12:00 noon – 5:00PM, we will have the Doyle Baseball Players School. The cost for the players school is $45 if you pre-register and $65 on-site. We already have a good number signed up for these schools so get in today and pre-register.
A major construction project is ongoing right now at the regional park. We are transforming the Blue and Green Fields (formerly used for 14U Baseball) into multi-purpose fields. When completed, we will use these fields for Adult Softball as well as our TEE Ball and Coach Pitch programs. It is our hope to be able to offer youth girls softball in the coming years as well. The scheduled completion date for this project is March 19th.
Our new Spring hours at the Columns at Boone Park will begin on March 8th. We will be open from 7:30AM – 7:30PM on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and from 7:30AM – 6:00PM on Wednesdays and Fridays. The walking track will be open during these times. On the weekends, we will offer open gym for basketball play. On Saturdays, from 2:00PM – 6:00PM, Children 14 years of age and younger and their parents can come enjoy a day of basketball. On Sundays, from 2:00PM – 6:00PM, the gym will be open to participants 15 years of age and older. If you need more information, please call us at (229) 924 – 4878.
It is our hope that your recreational needs are being met by this agency. If you have a suggestion, please feel free to call us at (229) 924 – 4878 or email me at Tim.Estes@sumtercountyga.us.
