Welcome to the Sumter County Parks & Recreation Department. We are glad that you have chosen to participate in one of our many programs. It will be our goal to provide your child with an organized youth sports program in a safe environment that is progressively competitive as they progress to higher age divisions. All of our programs will be held in a quality facility. All of this in hopes that your child will have a fair, equitable and enjoyable experience and have a desire to return to the next program.

In the past few years, our agency has undergone some major changes. We are now a department of the Sumter County government. As the executive director, it is my responsibility to direct this department in a professional manner. Our staff members are professionals! They are continually involved in professional development classes and seminars to keep them up to date in their assigned area of work. We strive daily to provide friendly and efficient customer service and conduct all of our business in an ethical manner. All decisions that are made in regards to these youth sports programs will be made based on what is best for the entire program. There may be decisions that you do not agree with or understand and we will be happy to discuss them with you. We want to earn your trust and your respect.

All of our volunteer coaches have successfully completed a criminal background check. We do this to ensure, to the best of our ability, that your child is in a safe environment. We will also make every effort to train our volunteer coaches through a nationally recognized coach's certification program. This will further enhance the youth sports experience and provide our coaches with valuable, proven information in the sport that they are coaching.

The rules and regulations in this local policy, procedures and rule book have been carefully studied and put together for your benefit. I want to encourage you to read through this book and familiarize yourself with the rules of the sport in which you are a participant. We have attempted to model our program rules after those of the Georgia High School Association, the Georgia Recreation and Park Association and Little League Baseball, Inc. Where needed, we have added local exceptions. Included in this booklet are very stringent playing requirements in each sport. These are enforced to ensure that every child has the opportunity to utilize their skills in a game situation.

Our new administrative offices are located inside the Columns at Boone Park Community Center at 408 Rucker Street in Americus. Please drop by and see this wonderful facility. You can also find valuable information on the world wide web at www.scprd.org.. We understand that you have a very limited amount of leisure time and that it's our job to help you make the most of it. Please feel free to give us your constructive criticisms so that we can be even better in the future. We will work extremely hard to make sure that all of these programs meet the highest standards that we can achieve on the district, state and even national levels. We will be good stewards of the tax dollars that have been entrusted to us. Together, we can make Sumter County a great place to live, work and play.

Sincerely,

Tim Estes
Executive Director
